About

Rob Malka

SINGER-SONGWRITER

Multi-hyphenate is the norm of the modern independent musician,  but few have the word "physician" behind one of those hyphens. After leaving his band Shinebox for a career in medicine, Rob Malka continued his musical pursuits in production music while practicing neurology full time. Landing a few publishing deals and minor sync placements was validating, but moreover, it elevated his arrangement and recording skills beyond his own expectations.

The release of Hold On (EP) in 2021 sparked a full fledged rekindling of his passion for songwriting and performing. With some subsequent live-streaming, a few open mic nights, and the release of his full-length debut Dark Side (2022), Malka launched a rapidly burgeoning solo career with a growing grassroots fan base in Knoxville, TN, while continuing to serve the community as a doctor.

Malka's brand of folky-alt-rock draws on flavors of The Lumineers, Glen Hansard and The Goo Goo Dolls. His universally relatable lyrics are candidly introspective, and despite the frequent touch of melancholy, the arrangements and melodies lend a singular energy to his live performances, whether solo or full ensemble.
